Many donors, organizations and congregations ask for suggestions of gifts which will directly help the children in care. Here are some items that are always able to be put to good use.

It may be simple to make a shopping list for your pantry and cleaning supplies at home. Even seasonal shopping for your family doesn't require a rental truck to bring everything home. Consider the needs of your household and family. The residential and household needs of UMCH are very much the same needs as those of your family.

When you purchase items for your household the list might look like this ...

    1 bottle of laundry detergent
    1 gallon of milk
    a dozen eggs
    a loaf of bread
2 boxes of cereal (for variety)
    1 pound of ground beef
    6 apples

While the UMCH list is very similar, it is different in one very apparent way ...

    8 bottles of laundry detergent
    10 gallons of milk
    8 dozen eggs
    12 loaves of bread
    20 boxes of cereal
    15 pounds of ground beef
    30 apples

By providing material needs to UMCH, you are helping us keep daily and general costs down. Also, our needs list includes some unusual items that help us care for children in a unique way. Your monetary gifts are always welcome, but picking up some extra items while you are shopping for your family will help our UMCH family.

Special Needs

To provide a variety of activities, treatment options and development opportunities, UMCH has several unique needs. The following suggestions will hopefully spark the imagination of a special investor who wants to partner with UMCH in providing a new experience for hurting children.

10' x 10' or larger Event Tents
As UMCH opens its campus to more groups and special events, we must offer hospitality to our guests. Having our own event tents will give UMCH the opportunity to be a gracious host to people and organizations using our facilities. We could also host these events more easily with tents readily available.

Fishing boat and trailer
Anyone who fishes is able to paint a picture of peacefulness, relaxation and rejuvenation from being on water and casting a line. The same opportunity to relax and get away from the daily grind should be available to children at UMCH. We hope for a fishing boat and trailer to provide our children a special experience of rest and relaxation through fishing. For safety and group size, a pontoon-type, flat deck boat would be ideal for UMCH therapy purposes.

Cottage / Cabin / Wooded acreage for outings
If your family has a get-a-way site you enjoy on weekends, the children at UMCH would also love to spend some time out of the city. Special progress happens in treatment when environments change. Children enjoy very positive experiences through camping and "roughing it" activities. Wooded acreage available for establishing camping facilities would add invaluable benefits to the activity and treatment options offered through the UMCH Therapeutic Recreation Program.

Thank You for All You Do!

Your special donation and support of our children at the United Methodist Children's Home is appreciated. As you and your family share resources with the children of UMCH, you are providing opportunities that have not been available to most of our children. Consistent meals, clean clothes, comfortable living spaces, birthday parties, good books and movies are provided to all children. Offering special opportunities like fishing, camping, expressive arts and weekend outings to UMCH children helps them realize that someone cares for their well-being and quality of life.

Once you determine how you can invest in the lives of UMCH children, call or stop by the campus. Our staff will be happy to offer a tour or schedule a luncheon for your organization. Representatives are also available to visit and speak at your next organization meeting, worship service or Sunday school class.
