TFC Admission Criteria
UMCH is licensed to serve children 0-18 years of age, either male or female, who have treatment issues (or are a sibling of a child with treatment issues), and require placement outside of their home.
Possible treatment issues include:
- Attention, concentration or hyperactivity issues (e.g. attention deficit disorder);
- Depression or other mood issues (e.g., bipolar illness or anxiety);
- Issues with attachment and relationships (resulting in a child being unable to function in foster care or a family setting);
- Issues arising from physical, emotional or sexual abuse and/or neglect;
- School or legal issues arising from or associated with social pathology or mental illness {e.g., truancy, status offense, criminal conduct, or unruly behavior); and,
- Issues with anger, self-harming behaviors, substance abuse issues, running away, parent-child conflict or other mental health issues.
Children who present with cognitive delays (IQ 50+ for boys, 70 for girls), past non-habitual fire setting, suicidal/homicidal behaviors, assaultive behaviors, and low risk sexual acting out behaviors are considered on a case-by-case basis.
